Lead by Example…Drug-Free Challenge
FAQ’s
Q. What is it?
A. An invitation to parents, community, business, church, union and education leaders to set an example for our youth and each other by volunteering for one year of random drug testing.
Q. Why?
A. Because our children deserve to be raised in a drug free community, drug free homes and drug free schools.
Q. Will students be tested as well?
A. Absolutely. This is the goal. By setting an example, we want to inspire as many students as possible to sign up for voluntary random drug and alcohol testing. Students who cannot afford the test will be sponsored by Partnership for Responsible Parenting, a local non-profit.
Q. What will students get for participating -
“Accepting the Challenge”?
A. Two things; first, the most important is a reason to resist inevitable peer preesure to experiment with substance abuse . Secondly, we will be sponsoring an awards banquet for successful participants. (We are asking the community to contribute towards a scholarship fund and awards/prizes for this event).
Q. What does it cost to participate?
A. $0 to $80 – The testing is truly random. Names are drawn quarterly and a challenge participant could be selected up to four times a year at $20 per test. Remember, students and families who cannot afford this will be sponsored.
Q. Who will administer the program and do the testing?
A. Star Drug Testing =, with offices in Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo and Santa Maria has agreed to sponsor this challenge. Star is waving all set-up fees and is discounting the tests to $20. All testing will be administered using strict DOT protocol.
Q. What happens if a participant tests positive?
A. If a test result is positive it is sent out to the lab for further analysis. If the result comes back positive a second time a student’s parents will be notified. If a school employee tests positive his/her immediate supervisor will be notified as well as notifying him/her directly. If a parent or other community member tests positive that person will be notified and we will make available resources so that person may seek help.
Q. Does this community challenge require school board approval?
A. Although we invite and welcome the endorsement of and participate by all community, educational, church, business, union and political leaders, it is not a requirement. Participation is strictly voluntary at all levels.
Q. When will the challenge begin?
A. July 4, 2006
